Reconstruction of the flexor tendon mechanism in the digit is most difficult in the area lying between the crease of the palm and the middle flexor crease of the fingers. In this critical zone, so aptly called "no-man¡¯s land" by Bunnell, both flexor tendons pass through the fibrous tunnels or pulleys.
Successful restoration of injured tendons in this area, however, requires the best of a process. Moreover, as important as the surgeon¡¯s skill during repair of divided tendons is the postoperative care he provides(Peacock, 1979).
The object of this work is to report the results obtained in a consecutive series of 7 cases of flexor tendon grafting in the fingers and thumb in Department of plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Capital Armed Forces of General Hospital, Seoul.
The basic technique used throughout this study was that described by Bunnell, namely, a full length tendon graft extending from the lumbrical origin in the palm to the terminal phalanx of digit.
